we make words

i'm saying good bye to the city. my office location is now moved to a northern suburb area. i used to live in the city until earlier this year. and now i don't work in the city either. growing up in quite a big city, i'm a bit sad... but i guess it's time for a change, what can i do i'm just whinging. oh well, at least we're having a long weekend due to the move, so i can take a break for a bit on monday. and i think it's going to be sunny too tomorrow, yay! have you heard about this sweet we make words project by amy and luci? crafty lovely people.

sandra juto

remember some time ago i have posted about smosch blog here? i have always wanted to do a Q&As with sandra juto - the blog owner who inspires a lot of people with her beautiful photos, illustrations and craft works. i'm so happy to present my second (little) interview with sandra. scroll down to read on.

some of sandra's gorgeous photos

from sandra's illustration book

big family of sandra's cute softies

how did you get started your craft, drawing and taking photos?
Being bored in my grandmother's kitchen, knitting and drawing were the perfect things to do. I get bored and restless very easily. I started taking photos to have a hobby and to get inspiration.

what medium do you use on your art? which media do you enjoy the most?
Pen, Pencil, Gouache, Computer... Gouache is my favourite, but the one I use the least, since I don't like to get dirty hands.

describe your art / style.
Spontaneous, screaming people, colourful, ironic, bizarre.

favourite artists?
Nina Hemmingsson, Edward Hopper, Camilla Engman, Jockum Nordström...

any current obsessions?
Having breakfast & reading at cafés, peaches, various blogs, beer.

current music and does it influence your work?
Joy Division, New Order, Arctic Monkeys, The Editors, I'm sure I'm being influenced in some way by everything I listen to and look at, but I can't say how.

describe your ideal weekend.
Breakfast at a café, long walk taking pictures, read books. In Gothenburg, Berlin or elsewhere.

where to from here?
Two more years on master's level (graphic design and illustration) + freelancing, have a dog, a car and no boss.

*thanks for sharing, sandra!*

the paper crane project

i found out about this wonderful project from sia. the paper crane project is created by liz from abstract the day. basically, liz will send out 1000 paper cranes to 1000 people. each person who receives it will then send her back a picture of the crane, either digitally or mail it back to her in print, and she will then put them altogether as some sort of installation. find out more about 1000 cranes inspiring history here. i think this is lovely, i sent an email to liz as soon as i finished reading about the project! *thanks for the link, sia!*

dawbis

i've been keeping an eye to dawbis' beautiful works for a while but i don't know why i haven't posted anything about her yet until today! the talented dawbis never went to school to study art nor considers herself as an artist. but i think her art and craft works are just amazing! discover more of her works here, and moreover she has a lovely blog too!

btw my blogging absence was due to my ski trip last weekend with people from work. first time skiing for me, i'm crap at it, my whole body is still sore but i enjoyed it a lot; i had a great time. can't wait for this weekend to come though (which is tomorrow!!), to get some proper time for myself to relax.

pirates on board

1. lovely pirates ship artwork by lisa congdon

2. baby blue poofy sleeved tee by bond girl clothing, available at day-lab

3. cute pirates ship necklace by little ghost design, also available at day-lab

damn... don't know how i did it, but i've broken up my blog lay out! luckily i didn't lose any of my posts! i've lost all of the links on the sidebar though :( i'll fix this soon when i get some time. in the mean time, the pirates ships seems to be the latest design theme these days. i wonder if pirates of the caribbean have been involved? i haven't seen the movie yet. is it any good?
